Q. How do I output my drawing from Spirit or other CAD package to Skribbel.

  • In Spirit and most other CAD applications, select the File pulldown menu and select Print Setup. Select a printer that supports the HPGL or HPGL/2 printer langauge. (A typical printer that supports this language, is the HP Designjet series of printer - Hp DesignJet 220C as example). Refer to your Windows documentation for adding printer drivers.
  • In addition select the paper size and orientation. In Spirit printer settings, check the To File option as well as the option Old HPGL2-Driver.
  • In order to output drawing entity colors, make sure that the Pen Table assignments have been correctly set such that the pen color matches the drawing entity color.
  • In Spirit set the output scale and then select Quicklayout and place the plot sheet over your drawing.
  • Select the option To HPGL from the plotter menu and enter an output name for the plot file. You can also use the regular Plot output and enter a print file name when prompted.

Q. How do I open my drawing file in Skribbel

  • First review the process for creating an HPGL or HPGL/2 plot file of your CAD drawing.
  • Select the File pulldown menu in Skribble and select Open
  • Browse to the folder where you saved the plt file, select the file and select Open

Q. Once I have loaded my file in Skribbel, what is the next step

  • The next step is to apply one the predefined "sketch" styles to your drawing. To do this select a style from the Drawing style drop down menu.
  • Once you are happy with the style you have selected, select the Edit pulldown menu and select Copy. (this will copy the "sketched" vector entities to the Windows Clipboard".

Q. How do I insert the Skribbel file back into my CAD program

  • From the Edit menu in your CAD application select the option Paste or Paste Special.
  • Then select Picture (Metafile) to paste the data in vector format. Resize the pasted data as necessary. In Spirit you can select the Enlarge option after selecting paste to set and enlarge factor by which to resize the pasted data. An enlarge factor of 2.27 will bring the pasted data in close to the current drawing size.
